University Application Programmes

The Sixth Form runs a programme for students interested in applying for specialist courses which have admissions tests (eg medicine) and for students interested in applying to universities where admissions tests are used (eg Oxbridge). This programme consists of classes and individual support through tutoring and mentoring, in order to prepare students to be successful in their university applications.

Leadership Programmes

Sixth Form students will have the opportunity to take part in a leadership programme which will involve leading activities and sessions of younger students. This will involve working with staff mentors and, for those students who wish, studying a short course for a formal leadership qualification.

YASS Programme

The YASS (Young Applicants in Schools and Colleges Scheme) is a programme run by the Open University which allows students in Sixth Forms to register for university courses and study them alongside their A levels. Courses vary in length and complexity beginning with taster courses of 10 hours.  Courses are available in a wide range of subjects. Students on the YASS programme are tutored by university staff and must achieve university standards to complete their courses.

TCF French Language Competency test

The TCF (Teste de Connaissance du Française) is the French Language competency test for non native French speakers. It is used to determine whether applicants have sufficient language skills to enter a French university. Students studying IB French will have the option to take the TCF as a part of their IB French course.

Extended Essay (AS)

The extended essay is a 4000 word (or equivalent) extended study which involves pupils in independent research on a topic of their choice. Their study could be based around the production of an essay, artefact or performance.
