6/1/2010 Sixth Former Kieran Jones, who is studying 4 AS courses, performed solo acoustic guitar and vocals for the entertainment of around 150 people at the Institute in Braintree.  The occasion was the annual Christmas meal of the local voluntary group "making my community work".  Kieran's performance was much enjoyed and it is hoped that the Sixth Form musicians will continue to be involved with the group.

5/1/2010 Helpful Sixth Formers build fence at John Ray Juniors

Braintree Sixth Form’s Silver Duke of Edinburgh group have been really keen to help out with local projects.  Over two weeks in November they worked at the neighbouring John Ray Junior School to put up a fence around the new wilderness area.  The students were overseen by Richard Parmee from Braintree District council and as you can see from the photos, did a fantastic job.  The group of sixteen students involved valued the experience, despite the cold...

15/12/2009 Curwen Print Studio

A group of A-Level, IB and Year 11 art students recently visited the Curwen Print Studio in Linton, Cambridge. There were two workshops involved, where we leant new skills and developed our portfolios. In one workshop we worked with lino blocks and made a number of successful prints using the industrial printing press. In the other we experimented with dry point printing in acrylic, using drawings from our sketchbooks.

23/10/2009 Open Evening 22nd October 2009

The Sixth Form Centre was very busy throughout the whole evening with prospective students and their families drawn from a wide range of schools. During the presentations in the new theatre, visitors heard about the high academic standards, the quality of the teaching and the emphasis on the "personal scale" that allows the Sixth Form staff to know all the students well and help them to develop their potential.  The audience particularly enjoyed hearing from the students themselves about their experiences of Sixth Form life, the wide range of enrichment and extra curricular activities...
