Two former Braintree Sixth Form students, Natacha Maurin and Sam Newman, came back to Braintree Sixth Form on 7 January 2020, to take an assembly on university life, UCAS applications and applications to Oxbridge in particular.

On Wednesday 18 December 2019, we celebrated Christmas with our annual Christmas lunch of roast turkey, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, stuffing balls, served with a selection of vegetables, followed by chocolate fudge cake – all complete with Christmas crackers.

We held a Christmas Jumper Day today, and raised £367.93 for the Save the Children Appeal. We are proud to have raised funds for the Save the Children Appeal which goes towards providing children with a better and brighter future both here in the UK and abroad.

On Tuesday 3 December 2019 we were delighted to welcome the BBC to Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form. The focus of the visit was the forthcoming General Election and the mock election being held in school on 12 December 2019.

One of the aims of the sixth form Personal Development programme is that students should know how to be 'enterprising in life and work' and we begin this in the Autumn Term for Year 12 with an enterprise challenge for the whole year group: to form a mini-business and seek to make a profit by holding an Enterprise Fair.

At 2.15am on Thursday 14 February, nineteen Year 13 students met to travel to Heathrow Airport to start our American adventure. In the week that followed, the group visited two cities and walked over 60 miles.

On Tuesday 26 February 2019, 40 A Level Psychology students took the opportunity to visit Bethlem Museum of the Mind. The museum offered a glance of the longest-running mental health institution in the world. While at one time it was known as Bedlam, a repository of the mentally ill of London, Bethlem Royal Hospital is a world leader in the treatment of both minor and severe mental disorders.

The Model United Nations (MUN) society at Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form has continued to grow this year. This is an extra-curricular group led by Braintree Sixth Form students, who this year have worked with a number of Year 11 students at Notley each week to develop their understanding of the MUN and to help them prepare for a conference.

Braintree Sixth Form hosted its annual Essex Roadster event on Friday 1 February 2019. The event is run in conjunction with Essex County Council and local driving school providers. The aim of the event is to heighten the awareness of road safety initiatives to our Year 12 students.
