Two former Braintree Sixth Form students, Natacha Maurin and Sam Newman, came back to Braintree Sixth Form on 7 January 2020, to take an assembly on university life, UCAS applications and applications to Oxbridge in particular.

On Wednesday 18 December 2019, we celebrated Christmas with our annual Christmas lunch of roast turkey, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, stuffing balls, served with a selection of vegetables, followed by chocolate fudge cake – all complete with Christmas crackers.

We held a Christmas Jumper Day today, and raised £367.93 for the Save the Children Appeal. We are proud to have raised funds for the Save the Children Appeal which goes towards providing children with a better and brighter future both here in the UK and abroad.

Students from Years 7 to 13 took part in Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form’s Mock Election Day on Thursday 12 December 2019.

We would like to draw your attention to a money laundering scheme we have been made aware of by the Essex Safeguarding Children Board.

We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded Healthy Schools status.

On Tuesday 3 December 2019 we were delighted to welcome the BBC to Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form. The focus of the visit was the forthcoming General Election and the mock election being held in school on 12 December 2019.

One of the aims of the sixth form Personal Development programme is that students should know how to be 'enterprising in life and work' and we begin this in the Autumn Term for Year 12 with an enterprise challenge for the whole year group: to form a mini-business and seek to make a profit by holding an Enterprise Fair.

The Music Department will be holding its Christmas Concert on Tuesday 10 December 2019 at 7pm in Braintree Arts Theatre.

On Friday 15 November 2019, we held a non-uniform and dress down day for students and staff to raise money for Children in Need. We raised a sum of £1,327.70 for Children in Need.

We were delighted to welcome the Safer Essex Roads Safety Partnership again this year on 19 November for our annual 'Roadster' Day.

It was a great pleasure to welcome so many prospective sixth form students and their families to our Open Evening for Year 12 intake September 2020 on 6 November 2019.

Our Senior Leadership Team will be serving Christmas lunch in the dining hall and Café6 for staff and students on Wednesday 18 December 2019. This year’s Christmas lunch will cost £2.50 for the main meal and £1.00 for dessert.

A Level Geography students spent 2 days in Southwold completing human and physical fieldwork in preparation for their upcoming fieldwork investigation. 

The Student Council at Braintree Sixth Form welcomed Lucy Wilson from Braintree District Council to their weekly meeting on 2 October 2019. 

Dr Becki Nash from the University of Southampton visited Braintree Sixth Form on 25 September 2019, to provide key skills workshops for the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) candidates.

On Thursday 26 September 2019, Year 12 Art students visited the Natural History Museum to collect images and make observational drawings to help develop ideas for their natural forms project.

Many congratulations to students from Braintree Sixth Form who have received their A Level results this morning. Almost every student has completed their studies with grades that will secure a place in higher education if that is what they wish.

Introducing the new members of the Braintree Sixth Form Student Council. They have formed a strong group of 15 members including a representative from each tutor group. 

On Friday 12 July, the Science Faculty hosted a twilight training workshop run by Dr Rizwana Alvi from the Royal Society of Chemistry.

On Tuesday 2 July 2019, we said goodbye to our Year 13 leavers in style. Students arrived at Fennes in Bocking from 6.30pm and were greeted by many members of staff as well as a welcoming mocktail.

The Year 12 Law trip to Chelmsford Crown Court was a fantastic opportunity for students to observe how the curriculum that they have studied this year is utilised in everyday life in the role of barristers and judges.

In June 2019, Year 12 students took part in a range of activities to start the process of applying for university courses, apprenticeships, or starting a career during the Braintree Sixth Form Destinations Launch Week.

UNIVERSITY DISCOVERY DAY - University of Essex, Colchester Campus

Everyone in our school community, together with family and friends, are invited to join us at the Creative Arts Festival on Thursday 4 July 2019.

At 2.15am on Thursday 14 February, nineteen Year 13 students met to travel to Heathrow Airport to start our American adventure. In the week that followed, the group visited two cities and walked over 60 miles.

On Tuesday 26 February 2019, 40 A Level Psychology students took the opportunity to visit Bethlem Museum of the Mind. The museum offered a glance of the longest-running mental health institution in the world. While at one time it was known as Bedlam, a repository of the mentally ill of London, Bethlem Royal Hospital is a world leader in the treatment of both minor and severe mental disorders.

The Model United Nations (MUN) society at Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form has continued to grow this year. This is an extra-curricular group led by Braintree Sixth Form students, who this year have worked with a number of Year 11 students at Notley each week to develop their understanding of the MUN and to help them prepare for a conference. 

Braintree Sixth Form hosted its annual Essex Roadster event on Friday 1 February 2019.  The event is run in conjunction with Essex County Council and local driving school providers.  The aim of the event is to heighten the awareness of road safety initiatives to our Year 12 students.

Mark Levy, a veteran of the US Civil Rights movement, visited Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form on 17 October 2018 to speak to A Level history students.

20 students from Years 11 and 12 went to the salubrious surroundings of the London Cruise Terminal in Tilbury to hear a series of talks by real-life scientists and engineers working in the chemical field.

Year 12 Art students visited the University of Cambridge botanic gardens and the Fitzwilliam Museum on the last Thursday of September 2018. 

On Monday 2 July the new Year 12 Induction Day took place. 

On the 3 May, forty Braintree Sixth Form students, accompanied by four of their teachers, went to the Cambridge Arts Theatre to see a production of Tennessee William’s A Streetcar Named Desire.

The morning started in a way people did not expect… well half of us anyway (including me), with around ten of us sitting in our usual classroom, vaguely aware of Sam la Rose’s visit but unsure when and where it exactly was supposed to occur.

On Wednesday 7 February 2018 a group of 36 Business and Economics A Level students visited the New Holland Tractor Plant in Basildon.
